Guy doesn't want a penny

If you're expecting a divorce showdown between Madonna and Guy Ritchie to match that of Heather Mills and Paul McCartney - think again.

Even though the couple had no pre-nuptial agreement Guy has told friends he doesn't want a penny of Madonna's estimated £300m. He's not likely to be saving his pennies to get by either: he’s said to be worth £30m.

After months of speculation, the couple released a statement yesterday confirming their marriage was ending.

It read: “Madonna and Guy Ritchie have agreed to divorce after seven-and-a-half years of marriage. They have both requested the media maintain respect for their family at this difficult time."

Madonna wanted to wait until the end of her Sweet and Sticky tour for the announcement but he reportedly told her it had to end because it had turned into a "three-ring circus".

Guy, 40, told friends: "I just wanted a regular husband and wife thing. But it was always a great song and dance just to do ordinary stuff."

A source told the Daily Mirror: "It's very sad but they've simply fallen out of love. Anything they had between them died a long time ago, but they've just been going through the motions, keeping up appearances.

"Madonna especially didn't want any publicity to divert attention from the start of her Sticky and Sweet tour. But the months have really dragged on and Guy has found the agony of pretending too much to bear.

"In the end he was the one who turned around to Madonna and said: 'Enough is enough – we have to end this charade.’"
